You Are As Strong As Samson
"...when you do the least bits of good for a stranger, in this world of increasing lies and uncertainty and chaos, you are making honey out of that carcass."
"Out of the eater, something to eat; out of the strong, something sweet."
"What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?"
They were jealous of Samson’s supernatural strength, and when his enemies finally garnered the secret to his strength, via the answer to this riddle that he gave them, they tried to steal it from him, but in captivity, Samson, once and for all used his strength to bring down the entire city that imprisoned him. He sacrificed himself to destroy his enemy. Specifically, the logical conclusion to his superhuman strength was it being used for something much greater than he.
Even moreso, I interpret his riddle as a prophecy of his enormous act; maybe he didn’t even realize it at the time. You see, the riddle above is in reference to an anecdote when he had to save his parents from a lion that was charging for them. Afterward, he’d seen bees making honey from the lion’s carcass. He did something purely out of an instinctual drive to protect his own, not realizing, killing the beast led to the creation of something new. For the bees, it was arguably a preferable act, as they seem to have preferred this carcass as a place to make their honey.
No one really seems to think about that nowadays, as the extreme oddity of living in the now seems to be enough for us to handle. I’d imagine all of the grandest civilizations of yore that all fell due to the same crises that plague us today were of the same mindset. There was too much going on now, the now was so much better than before that the wisdom of the ancients was so outdated, so the same stupid mistakes were repeated ad nauseum. It’s hard not to take the blackpill when you see how bad things have gotten, not just as the spiritual rot has spread, and the normalcy of community and a transcendent love has been forgotten, and replaced with sleeping around every weekend and honoring the State-God’s newest social trend.
I think it is important to remember, however, that even the biblical characters, whether you recognize them as historical or not, resemble deeper archetypes that constantly haunt the spirit of man. You see, even if Samson did not know what he was bound for, he saw his fate beautifully resonate in the lion’s carcass. Something about it, maybe, he couldn’t even understand stuck with him. Some je ne sais quoi; the knowledge of the spiritual realm, a deep wisdom of God breaking off in the real world and merging with his psyche. Samson was bound for something greater, and he knew that for the otherworldly strength he’d been gifted, but it wouldn’t show until he finally passed on.
There’s something to remember when you face evil in this quickly degenerating world, that even if you are alone (which you most certainly aren’t) that God has given you a gift, a promise, to give you a couch to surf for eternity, if you choose to store your treasures up in Heaven. The good you do, the evil you proverbially annihilate and preach against is how you store up untaxed interest payments in Heaven. When you impart love and a smile for your fellow man, when you do the least bits of good for a stranger, in this world of increasing lies and uncertainty and chaos, you are making honey out of that carcass. There is nothing that can annihilate that love. When you revert back to some childish anger, you sin, and you know that, and reminding yourself of that anger is pertinent to maintaining your holy lot in life. When you spread truth, you honor God; when you preach love, you honor God; when you wave to a stranger, help out a neighbor, and preach against clear evils and treachery; you honor your Lord your God.
Doing good in vain, is no way to honor God’s name, but it must be done for Him. Your kind acts are a sacrifice of the selfish and prideful acts you’d otherwise do, and sacrifice the everlasting peace you’d otherwise have in Heaven.
