Mythos of Scientism
Elaborating on some Evolian literature and how the materialistic modern man has no way forward.
In Julius Evola’s Ride The Tiger, he speaks on the nascent phenomenon of scientism worship. He even calls it that by name, which I find to be uncannily prescient:
The apogee of the myth of physical science coincided with that of the borgeois era, when positivist and materialist scientism was in favor. Then there was talk of a crisis of science, and an internal critique occurred, resulting in a new phase inaugurated by Einstein’s theory. An offshoot of this, the scientistic myth has revived recently with an appraisal of scientific knowledge that in certain cases has had curious developments.
He goes on to analyze and rebuke the pullulating spread of the scientism mythos. This very mythos what he attributes modern man’s disregard of his once critical spiritual curiosities in this life; the binary code of meaning. Instead of his spiritual being, or even living life in the many unknowns of existence, and awe-inspired so, science has created a bubble for which nothing is ever certain, and yet, immaterial and transcendent are not calculated in.
It all comes down to measurement, for the harrowed scientism follower. Everything they believe must be measured by some ruler, but the infinite in-betweens within the measurements only lead them with a sorry mathematical calculation that isn’t even spot-on, just 99.99% exact; a sorrowful reflection of how little they actually know. Everything is a hypothesis or theory, everything is either debunked or unproven, and their entire life is spent in a shell of anxiety and a complete insecurity in their ability to lead a life worth living because their precious beliefs are only held up by the uncertain, quantum factors that make the mythos of scientism not even exact.
Science is constantly changing, therefore their principles, their morals, their entire beliefs about reality, are constantly changing. How can someone be trusted in their own judgement on right from wrong, when their very beliefs about the sky’s color or Pluto’s planet class, are changed on a whim from untrustworthy scientists of varying ability and intelligence. That is the very existential problem with these types. Try as they might, no matter what they do, they will never know anything, because nothing is certain, but one thing is certain to them: there is no supernatural, and everything is some sort-of measurable phenomenon, but still, never certain.
Likewise, their opaque moral dignity is adorned with generally libertine, morally subjective impressions. There is no right or wrong, as long as they can make some sophistic argument as to why their truly morally heinous decisions were okay because of the circumstance, or because it isn’t against the law within the nation they committed such acts. There is an abandonment of any purpose in this thinking, and such, they do not care about the moral quandaries of the world around them because they have no ultimate meaning to answer to. Their life is a disturbing shell of unknowing, and therefore, they are unknown in what is morally just and morally reprehensible.
Their beliefs are beliefs of convenience; where every moral affront they have, or cause that they stand for, is all out of a vain, two-dimensional move to make themselves feel nice. They do not even inquire as to why doing such things make them feel nice, and even if they did, it would be explained away by some neurological or physiological spiel.
Nothing is mysterious, and yet, nothing is certain, therefore, when truth is such as this — no certainty and no conclusion — one models a life that is similar to that of pre-Christian pagans who simply acted and reacted in accordance to certain stimuli. They were the inverse of the atheist, wherein materialism was blatantly their god, and not passively. The moral conclusion one, who is being objective, can make is that these people are sickened by a disease that is only solved by humility; a virtue St. Augustine made very clear was the ultimate virtue of the Christian person.
Those who are beguiled by the material, are pawns of the evil one, only because they are unaware that they are living in his uncertain, scary, stimulation-focused world; not the one of God which is black-and-white, peaceful, and absolute.
We were brought out of the realm of beast, and the mindset of modern atheists is one that harkens back to pure short-term time preference, where there is no worry for the afterlife, nor the descendants of our generations, because why do you care — you’ll be dead! Better just party and make money then artificially extend your life as long as possible before you die in your own feces in a hospital bed!
This issue extends further to the monotony-worship of modern education; wholly of this world, completely disregards any metaphysical, and embraces the Marxian classist absolutism — the only absolutism materialists have. They’re literally gaslit into thinking in this monomaterialistic worldview, and that being such as it is, the indebted, sophistic college/university attendants will put the entire meaning and stock of who they are solely into the degree that they have chosen (after switching three or four times). Because now that they have reengineered themselves, and gone through the reformative scholar camp of modern university, they are now deemed disciples of this esoteric cabala.
See, no longer are they like you or I, they are esoteric litterateurs of the communistic high class. Not the damned bourgeoisie, that is! No! They are an ascended scholar class of elders who spent the 30-35 years they’ve lived on this Earth in governmental and government debt-backed brainwashing facilities.(as ascended as it gets in the material world)
The overproduction of elites isn’t just the issue. These people don’t think they are elite — they think they are the future! They literally think they know things that you don’t! They read Das Kapital (something I read when I was a teenager lol) and think that they have stumbled upon something people refuse to understand. These people, baked in the oven of madness, ego-worship, and the absolute unknowing of hypermaterialism, are bound towards the darkness of no success and no meaning, because their entire world is that which worships the self. Why? Because the outside world is meaningless! There is no certainty! There is no truth! So they have already reached levels of ascension never before seen on planet Earth!
The mythos of scientism and the unbecoming are the fruit of a dying culture. It all is rotten, it all smells bad, and only those who grew it are in denial. The only logical point to which these people will be led to is one of despair and confusion, as the opportunities they wished for in their utopia do not coalesce, and ultimately, these people will be left to their own devices when the future doesn’t have a job for them at the New York Times, nor will it have even a job to pay off all that debt that they have amassed.
We are going to see an entire two or three generations of people who are completely unmarriable, unhireable, and have absolutely no skills or interesting or likeable personality factors. For now, they are a market for the state propaganda, yes, but in the future? When we are living in a not too pretty dead economy with continuous civil unrest and division? Where the people who actually work, pay taxes, and create tangible goods and services (ironic how the strictly tangible-believers are the ones who don’t create) will simply be fed up with these bad people doing bad things in their good towns.
The path to light is much too impeded for the spiteful mutants, and we are going to enter into an interesting era where they are completely unwanted, and yet, they have the largest egos and loudest mouths.
The point of life is being close to God, and trusting in his goodness. The knowledge of man and material is just as fleeting and unimportant as the dust in the wind. God be with you.
“It is no advantage to be near the light if the eyes are closed.”
St. Augustine
