I’m doing work out of town, and am currently writing this post at a hotel as I sip an IPA late into the night, and this thought has been wracking my mind throughout the whole day - why does the modern world suck so much? We pass thousands of people a day who we don’t know or care about, we pile up groceries and goods made by faceless illegal immigrants in some plant, we patronize businesses we have no connection to, we consume food and drinks we don’t know the origin of, and worst of all, we work jobs that act only as a way for us to further our cause within the modern world. So what if we could break out of that? What if we could break out of the matrix (sorry, cringe) and actually use our money to further our own independence from evil and decay?
A common discussion I have had in my discord is the prospect of starting a self-sustaining village, and general subjects pertaining to that idea. Most Americans in some sick, disturbing, learned helplessness kind of way think they won’t ever be able to buy property, and even if they do, they buy a 3,000 sq. ft. McMansion that has a 1,000 sq. ft. backyard in the suburbs. We don’t even view it as home, but a commodity - an asset. We don’t see potentiality in turning an unused lot into a village, but how we can make a quick buck off of it, or use it as a means to brag.
At this point, I really don’t know what it takes to convince anyone clued into the decline on why they should be taking productive efforts to buying self-sustaining land to turn into villages, but if you are unconvinced, a question to ask yourself is this:
“What undefinable threshold must be met for you to take any kind of risk with your life and put your money where your mouth is?”
Simply put: when are you gonna get off your ass and do something?
To further the creative juices, I’ll give a peak into my own life: Today and yesterday I have been doing work in the new progressive capital of America - Austin, and it occurred to me how liberalism’s hell-bent urge to conquer all barriers between an individual and their ability to be sold a product is undying. For instance, why only sell makeup to women (as in, the objective sex that God made from Adam’s rib), when you can twist the definition of “woman” and turn it into a customizable accessory to a human’s avatar. Then you have a broader market to sell to! Liberalism and capitalism (they are both comorbid) enjoy breaking barriers, the former social and the latter economic, but they stick to the same twisted idea of ‘whatever construct that exists must be challenged, destroyed, or recreated to be more efficient and fair.’
That is what I am starting to see, as the wound festers, and my resentment dies. I have realized the clarity of mind I have been brought from moving on from the finger-pointing. I used to be angry, but now I am just eager to have neighbors worth knowing (doesn’t mean I am absolved of obligation of good works to my current neighbors), personhood and love kneaded into the bread that I eat, and craftsmanship stamped into every belt I wear. I yearn for a village, a shire, whatever you want to call it. Is that really so much to ask for?
Well, that’s where the cutoff is for everybody. It really is too much to ask for. It is so natural for us to feel unworthy and to second-guess our spirit telling us to break away from a world of perpetual impersonality, commodification, and sin. We don’t have enough faith in our own trustworthiness, work ethic, prudence, and love to be good citizens. Likewise, we do not place the same trust in our fellow man, these days. Ironic how faith, hope, and love have been lost in so many men. It’s seen as either gay or passé, but these are the stepping stones to any lasting venture.
It’s independence from the lifestyle sicknesses that we seek, right? The endless driving along lifeless stroads that connect no souls, but the ability for an individual to purchase product from legacy economy megacorporation. Efforts like this take a higher risk than it would if you saved money for several years (time we don’t have), and planned everything out elaborately. However, literally nothing ever works out like that.
If you are to obtain some level of independence from the modern world - a world that kills you - then it requires a risk, and hopefully a risk that doesn’t require you to take on debt.
This is why buying land with friends is a must. Why? You don’t have time. How? Well, you should have been saving your money. If you have money, then I don’t know what you are waiting for - you have a literal ticket to having a giant piece of land you can literally do whatever you want on whether it be growing food, upstarting some manufacturing, creating a safehouse for people you like, etc. If all you are doing is waiting around for a crash, then I am sorry, but that could be years. Timing is useless, and that is all Joe Schmo does - wait around so he doesn’t have to do anything with his life in the moment.
And if you want to put a price between you and when the housing market improves, then you’re still wrong. It’s called kicking tires and offering people cash money because they will fold the minute someone gives them cash versus whatever installment plan they have between them and a bank. Money is money, and talks a lot quicker and better than a bank - or whatever potentialities the market they’re selling to months later has.
You can make a market for yourself, so start looking. This is where it becomes a question of arability, locals, climate, economy, etc, and that’s where I would say don’t get so picky. Arability is definitely number one, but locals? Climate? Economy? It’s called adapting. If you can get 20-100 acres of good land for a good price then you’re likely a good distance from a city. There are ways of gatekeeping, but regardless - learn to fucking adapt. Why have people forgotten what obligation is? Your world is collapsing in front of you and all you can do is sit there and watch it burn? Goofy.
My proposal is: connect with people you trust and have some fucking adventure for once. Get out there and buy land and do what you know is required. For anyone who travels for work like I do, you will know the feeling of seeing cities that are morally deteriorated, infrastructure that serves capital and not community or soul, and a drab lockstep march to the sound of this anti-cultural drum that only wants to destroy what is good (yet doesn’t recognize its own hastening entropic deterioration). From the unwalkable cities to the immoral inhabitants, there’s a stinking stench that grows more potent and more recognizable day-by-day.
Personally, I am ready to make this move whenever is feasible, but I have continuously met the overly-cautious nature of people around me, so I am financially stuck like all other poorass DR homies out there (I have decent savings, but not enough to buy a plot of land cash). This is why, regardless if it is me or my compatriot autists, or your own friends you find reliable, you should start seriously considering the prospect of self-sustainability if your spirit and finances are in the position to do so.
If you have 25k in your savings account, all you need is three other people with 25k, and y’all can put together, pretty safely, 100k to buy a large plot of land or a big plot of land with constructed housing on it. This is where the doing starts. Not only do ideas flow, but you start constructing routines, following the habits that a community naturally follows. For possibly the first time in your life, as the community customs and grooves are made natural, you get to experience the beauty of community and harmony.
Much better than a detached apartment or suburb, or integrating into an octogenarian rural area, or a crime-ridden urban area. Truly, the only place you will find your ability to bring out the Good that the world needs is in implementing your own communities that recognize what is Good and why it comes first. Why pussyfoot anymore? We literally don’t have time. So, if you want to buy land, do it. Do it soon, because I’m gonna try and make this a reality as soon as possible and I guarantee I’ll do it better than you.
Anyway, I’m drinking an IPA at 1:15 AM in an Austin Holiday Inn and should probably get some sleep. PM me if you want to buy land in Texas.
